Not that hard actually....

I recently did this on my car. The hardest part will be prep time.
Make sure you take your time and take care of any rust. I simply sanded down any rusty spots and painted over them with Rustoleum.

You can get the replacemnt headliners from Classic Industries, Year One and the advertisers at the top of this page.

My car is t-top, so for mine all I had to do was remove the rear view mirror, remove both sun visors, remove the center dome light and both sail panels, and also the rear plastic piece towards the back of the car (it is the piece that covers the area where the headliner and hatch glass meet). After these pieces are removed, the headliner wil come right out, and then you can put the new one in. You will jsut need a second set of hands to support the back of the headliner while you install the front.

Good luck!

Depends

I removed my headliner and repaired it myself... I used fiberglass resin and fiberglass cloth on the back of the headliner. Cost me like $10.00 and about 2 hours of work (that included removing the headliner from the car). I was going to replace the material on the headliner myself but I am not that handy with material and sissor's so I brough the whole headliner to a local "Autobody/Glass Repair" shop and they re-did it for $100.00 (this is Canadian funds) with new gray material.

So if you are good with material and your backing board isn't too far gone you can fix it like new for probably $40.00 (materials included).

There is a Tech Article on that whole procedure.

I was told by an upholster & it works great, once you get the headliner material off the back board, to take a wire brush, & scrub off the rest of the foam to get all of the foam off.

worked great...I said that...

Check your Yellow Pages for a Auto upholestery shop. I had mine done in the original color & material for about $160. This was for a factory appearance installation. Now you can DIY or buy that one piece junk and it will look like ?????. Your choice.
