Hey fellas/fellerinas, wondering if anyone has the carbon fiber decklid installed? Mine needs replacing and im wanting to know what fitment is like, the look on the car. Thanks

 

With that being the latch point, the weight of the glass, and the tension of the struts I would be worried more about how it resists cracking.

 

Is there such a thing?
It would seem to be an expensive way to shed only a few pounds from the one place on the car you don't really want less weight. The glass it's attached to weighs way more.
You might be talking about a fiberglass replacement hatch like the factory notchback?

 

I guess the cracking is plausible, and there is a company that makes them although they run around 5 large and that is pretty steep. The c/f decklid looks pretty rad though and im thinking about putting the carbon fiber wrap in my ttops. I am also diggin' the carbon 3 piece spoiler.

 

Any reason you aren't telling us who makes this thing?

No one on this site has purchased them because their products are a waste of money. Carbon fiber decklid and spoiler? Those products are for people with more money than they can use or the young adult tuner wannabe. Purchase a used one from a yard or one of the cars always being parted out on this site.

 

I hadn't actually seen the decklid before and the pictures on the website are obviously photoshopped. It does look kind of cool and if made properly I think it might be strong enough. I always wonder with items like this if they have actually made one or are just waiting for someone dumb enough to give them $600 for it and then make one.
I'm all for aftermarket carbon fiber parts if they are well done, but this part seems pointless. weight savings there doesn't do much for you and it seems very questionable about how well it will mount up to the glass and plate from the hatch. Seems like a sheet of carbon fiber pattern vinyl would be just as good.
The three piece wing you refer to appears to be a typical ***** universal wing that looks silly on most cars but especially on third gens.
Now if they offer a carbon fiber formula or TA hood I'd be more interested.
I think the decklid will look pretty cool, just not worth it to me. I think it would look better. With the stock 91-92 high rise z28 wing or on a firebird with the straight wing.
Get one and let us know how it works out.

 

If i could find one for half the price i would probably check it out but you might be right that they are not even made up yet. I have the high rise z28 spoiler on my car now, i also thought the carbon fiber would never have a chance of rusting either. Thanks for your thoughts man.

Obviously not, and for good reason. Do not waste your money on that! If you really need to waste $800 waste it on a 1/2" cordless impact, digital torque wrench and an aluminum low profile extended reach jack.

 

i check ebay on occasion to see if any of them are less than 500 bux but i have not seen one yet. i am definitely interested in trying one out.
