01/19 a lady pulled out in front of me while I was going 50mph. I was able to slam on my brakes, but still hit her very hard. Spun once, engine went nuts and I peeled out and went into a corn field, spun 2 more times before coming to a rest. I had to jumped out the T-tops as the doors were pinned closed.
She took a damn hard hit and I am beat to ****. Shoulder is screwed, sterum hurts like hell, arm is bruised, but I am alive.
I purchased my first 3rd gen on Jan 29, rebuilt the engine, new fuel pump, fuel lines, inner/outer tie rods, ball joints, many other things were done. Just got her up and running 3 months ago. I have 4 boys and a daughter who was just born 2 months ago. Thank god none of them were with me.
I will have another 3rd gen at some point, but I need to take a break. She is named Coley after my wife. Thank you for the time I had and the joy you brought me.
Your hit looks a lot harder than mine, but the same type of thing happened to me years ago. I had just finished installing a good pass door and a glass hood the week before. Was traveling @ 45 or so MPH in the right lane of a 4 lane (un-divided) state highway. Slower cars were in the left lane as we traveled,....a van 3-4 cars ahead (in the front) of that right lane line of cars had slowed to allow a import from on-coming traffic to cross our traffic lanes. I never saw the car crossing our lanes ( due to the size of the van till I smashed into it. Never had a chance to touch the brakes & I crashed into the pass rear. Sent the car spinning into a parking lot where it hit 3 additional cars - I didn't hit anyone else.
Like you; I was alone in the car at the time & was glad/surprised to walk away; badly bruised & a little bloody ( my nose hit the steering wheel ) but thankfully nothing broken and no major injuries to anyone.
Sorry about your ride dude; but glad that you're still here & able to tell the story. It REALLY sucks when there's absolutely no chance to avoid crashing into someone ! I really hope that you are able to fully recover without any lasting problems.
Thanks, I tore my rotator cuff back in 2008 and had it repaired. I am pretty sure it is torn again. I am going to call a dr tomorrow and get in to see him. If it is, her insurance will be paying out. She was on her cell phone, never said sorry or asked if I was ok.
She could have cared less and that pisses me off big time.
I thought about buying the car back, but I do not have the time to part it out. The interior is in great shape and a ton of new parts in the engine that could probably still be used.
I am glad you were able to walk away from your wreck. I can deal with a car I buy and it wrecks. It hurts a lot more when you buy a car that was dead and build her back up to see the road again, only to have a careless driver pull out in front of you.
My son wants a Ranger or S10, so that is going to be my next project. Older 4x4 and make sure it is sound. Will be easier for him to work on and learn the engine.
Glad you are OK. Its frightening to see how many drivers are on their phones. I know the police see them, but ironically, I was pulled over for eating a hamburg a while ago. Got a warning for distracted driving.
If you don't have one, buy a Polarcare 500 with the shoulder pad. It looks like a beer cooler, has a pump that circulates ice water above 32 degrees. Unlike ice packs, this can be used for more than 15 minutes at a time. Use it an hour or two before you go to bed and you will be able to sleep all night without pain. If all you have is a small tear it may be better to let it heal and the polar care will help you heal quicker. I've worked with several people with rotator cuff recoveries and this machine helped everyone both before and after surgery. Good luck

.
Glad you survived without worse injuries, but I feel bad for the car.
I might be interested in the interior. What color? And do you know where the insurance company intends to send the car? Thanks.
