Power Antennae Removal

My power antennae on my 87 IROC has been stuck up since 1989. I just never got around to changing it. Now i am sick of not being able to go through the car wash, and i just got my car back on the road after hibrinating for many years. How do i remove this antennae assembly, and i can i replace it with a non power, screw on type?? Thanks.

pwr antenna

I swapped my power one out to a manual one--found it was way easier to just pull off the fender itself to get to it.
You also have to take off the interior hush panel on the passenger side--this is to pull out the old antenna wire--you'll have to feed in the new one. you'll also(obviously)have to take out the radio. For the stationary antenna just reverse the procedures--no biggie but time consuming.

Do you still have the power one? How does the power antennae hook up to an after market stereo? Same way as the stock? Also, what powers the antennae.. is there a switch, or does the radio do it.

antenna

I don't have the pwr one anymore--it was stuck too--but since my donor had a manual one--I just swapped it out.
The power one hooked to a harness that was under the hood--not sure where exactly--I bought the car w/o it hooked up--I think it went up once it received an impulse from the radio turning on--like an amp would--but again I'm just guessing on that-since it wasn't hooked up--also the wires were cut.

But it looks like the radio did it. Sorry I'm kind of vague on that part of it--but a swap is easy to do!

You have to saw the antenna mast off and take the front wheel and inner fender off, then unbolt it and slide the motor assembly out,I got a hidden antenna and it works great,it lines the outside border of the top of my windshield, it really cleans up the lines of the car, eben more if you shave the hole like I am going to when my car goes into the paint shop to get some touch up work done in 2 weeks

Re: Power Antennae Removal

I'm looking to remove my antennae from my 91 Bird... Thing looks dorky, and I'm getting Sirius anyways... I searched for antennae removal, and All that came up was this ancient thread... figured I'd just hop on.
So, I've taken the mast off, and taken the base off... Now I can't get this bolt thats inside the quarter panel out. I can't go in through under the dash, and I can't get in from the AC Blower part of the firewall... how do I get that little hunk of antennae out? Do I have to take the black cover from the Wheel well out? I'll post pics tomorrow if it'll help at all... I Know it's kind of unclear how I just described it...
But, if anyone has removed an antennae from their bird, and knows what I'm talking about, I'd like help. Thanks. in advance.

you gotta take the wheel off, and the "black cover" then there is like one bolt that hold it on
