Windshield Wipers Control Board

The wipers on my 1986 Camaro are not working, I keep blowing fuses. I have read a couple of posts that implies that the control board (printed circuit) is not available, is this true? I have not been able to find a listing for a control board on a number of sites. Does any one have a work around? I would like my wipers to work.

Re: Windshield Wipers Control Board

NAPA should have it. And it has been reworked to solve the original problems that these modules had from the factory.

Re: Windshield Wipers Control Board

GM trucks of those years had wiper circuit board issues also.
The issue was that the solder lines cracked so power connection
was lost.

The fix was to remove the board and resolder the connections.

Check any full size GM truck board for instructions.

You may be able to remove the circuit board cover while its
on the car and inspect the solder lines and joints with a
magnifying glass.

I have tried NAPA and they did not have the board. I have the whole unit out of the car so I will look at the solder lines. I am surprised that someone hasn't produced an update replacement. I don't drive the car in the rain often, it drives better with the T-tops off.

Re: Windshield Wipers Control Board

Thats not the one he needs.I have fixed cracked circuit boards by drilling small holes on the tracer on each side of the crack, scrape the green coating to reveal the copper element & inserting a solid copper wire thru the holes, wrap the ends together, then solder the whole thing.
The wire keeps the crack from breaking the solder joint & makes the board a little stronger too.

Can you post pics of the process?

Re: Windshield Wipers Control Board

I dont have any pics, sorry.Instead of just soldering over the crack/s.You're basically using the piece of wire to keep the crack from breaking the solder joint again.
