What’s This Part

I’m reassembling my project car and found this in a box. It’s from an 87 Trans Am. Any thoughts?

Re: What’s This Part

Its a support brace that Goes under the battery tray. But Ive never seen this with the extra bracket for the vac ball. later car just mount the vac ball to bottom of batt tray.

Re: What’s This Part

That explains it. I cut out the battery tray for one of my intercoolers...no wonder I couldn’t find a home for it.

Thanks!

Re: What’s This Part

That piece braces the frame rail, opposite the steering box. If you leave it off the steering will be notably more sloppy.

Are you sure? There’s another triangular brace in the location you describe that connects to the k-member on one side and the frame on the other. That one is slightly smaller than this one.

Positive. It bolts between the outside of the frame rail, and the bottom of the battery tray. It's not there to support the battery tray, it's there to counter the forces of the steering box on the inside of the frame rail. The frame rail needs all the help it can get to brace the steering box. Leaving the triangle brace out, would be like throwing away a wonderbar, only worse.
