I need to re paint my Cragar louver and I am undecided as to satin of flat black? Cant picture it in my mind. I have some experience spraying, enough to do the louver right or can it be rattle canned? Thanks much
It will be extremely difficult to paint something that big with a rattle can and keep it wet so it lays out well and doesn't dry too fast as you sweep back. I'm taking my set to my painter to have them sprayed with a gun. I'm going to do a paint with a clear coat that will look like the trim around the hatch, about that finish, or maybe just SEM Trim Black. I re-painted all of the trim black on both my cars and the SEM is really tough. So far it doesn't seem to stain from normal elements.
....I painted my headlight buckets last night with the rattle can SEM trim black/satin. Pretty happy with how it came out. REAL easy to spray. I was worried about not shooting out of the gun, but the body shop guys insisted. It went on real nice, and dried completely even.
It's not terribly bad. The OEM louvers are hinged at the top, and have flip down supports, so you can prop em up and clean the glass if you need to. Of course I'd expect most thirdgens these days get dirty sitting in the garage more than anything. What dust gets through the cover, rinses out without issue.
Back when I was daily driving my 83 Camaro, the louvers it had weren't hinged, and didn't have quick detach fasteners. I don't remember ever directly cleaning the rear glass.
I used the duplicolor rattle cans Drew mentioned.
I tried doing it with 2 cans but it was a bit patchy (may have been my technique).
I followed up with another 2 cans the next day (kept the sweep more constant) and they came out perfect.
