Has anyone ever used/installed the Summit Race Seats?

The Summit race seats in the back of the catalog. They look pretty interesting. Im wondering if anyone has seen/been in one of them and what you think of them. Actually my main question is how hard do you think it would be to install myself on a 87 camaro. I know it said extra materials and work needs to be done, but how much? Thanks

My friend has race buckets in his Nova, I think their summit but not sure. He didn't have any trouble installing them but let me warn you they are the most uncomfortable seats ever, period. After driving his car 5 minutes I was ready to go back to my Camaro, despite his cars 406 power.

My buddy has them in his Jeep. Not for everyday driving. They are for shots down the strip only.

I know they're not really comfortable but they're that bad even with the padded seat covers on them? I see the new ones they have and for $36 a seat(and $36 a cover) it's not a bad deal. What about the seat tracks? Can you in any way use your old ones and if not how hard is it to use the sliding seat rail kits?

ryn28, unless you are a 68 pound weakling you will sink through that one inch of padding and the seat will get uncomfortable in about 5 minutes.

As far as padding goes... how much effort do you want to put into a 50 dollar seat? Fabrication of barackets and sliders is a PITA. I know, i've done it in a CRX road racer. Took almost a full day to mount a couple freaking seats. And we had a machine shop at our disposal. ...Anyway, I'd just look in one of the import magazines (I know what you're thinking) and see if you can't find something in there. If not, the Kirkey Intermediate Laybacks are pretty nice.

i helped install a set of those racing seats in my buddies race car. If you use the stock seat brakets then you won't have the problem of head clearance like we did by using the summit bracket and the adjustable braket combined. What we did was mount the stock camaro seat brackets down, then take a 15x15 inch piece of 1/4 inch steel and drill out the holes for the factory bracket. What you then end up with is a great adjustable seat bracket for free with the factory mounting height. Then all you do is drill 4 holes to mount the drag seat and you're set.

that's what we did in the CRX, but using Aluminum. I'm gonna use Corbeau Forza's in my car.
