Power antenna am I missing something?

82 firebird with power antenna when down doesn't look right but I haven't seen another in person. So am I missing a trim piece on top or is it supposed to be open on top when all the way down?

Well it just looks goofy with the antenna sitting about half inch down in the hole. I would think it would sit more flush. Doesn't the big hole have more of an opportunity to collect dirt and water that would mess up the moving parts?

Yep. That's stock. As mentioned there are drain holes in the perforated metal sleeve that surrounds the mast.

Ok thanks guys. I just got this thing working with the stainless 3/32 steel cable mod. I suffered from losing stations everytime I went out of town since I've owned it. Now its time for full mast & clear stations lol.

I believe it was made that way (with the antenna sitting down that far) because if they didn't, your 11 year old son wouldn't be able to fill it up with pea gravel. At least that has been my experience. (Now he's 15 and had to work on said antenna when we started fixing the camaro back up recently). K A R M A... P.S. that's the way mine looks also.
