Adding a coat after 48 hours

I sprayed painted one of my wheels to see how it would look. I like how it turned out. I put down three light coats but I missed a spot. Paint can says to wait 48 hours. My question is do I need to sand the spot I missed or can I just paint it?

I would wait the 48 hrs and lightly sand the whole wheel and respray the entire wheel. If you just sand a repaint the spot it will definitely show, maybe more than what you see now.

Re: Adding a coat after 48 hours

I know for a fact that if you using any Rustoleum product, if you don't wait at least 48 hours, then the coat you spray on WILL wrinkle the coats underneath. I have had it happen after 4 days of drying! Re-stripping is not fun. I would say let the sun bake it, but that is not likely to happen this time of year. You could try a hair dryer. All coats must be done within 1 hour or after 48 hours.

I tried Rustoleum but didn’t like it much. I’m using Duplicolor Wheel paint and it goes on and dries evenly. I didn’t realize I missed a spot until it dried. I haven’t done much rattle can painting but I couldn’t get good results with Rustoleum. It’s been a few days, so I’m ready to spray again just didn’t know if I had to sand that area down. It’s by the lug nut so I’ll sand and just spray that pocket. Thanks
