Wrap Around Spoiler-1988 Firebird

Does anyone have experience with some of the fiberglass replacement units offered? Which has the best fit, there are several out there but I have read that some have fitment issues

Re: Wrap Around Spoiler-1988 Firebird

From my research I found that none of them are perfect. I'm still waiting to see if someone will make one that would fit the factory third brake light housing for our cars. The biggest problem I've seen is that the repros are more flat while the factory ones have a slight curve to them.

From my research they all bolt up and clip in just fine, just the other dimensions are slightly off. Off enough that a trained eye could tell it's a repro.

Got mine from Hawks. Overall I cant complain. I had to modify the 3rd light housing by shaving it down. But I am happy in that is very easy to install and lightens the car and rear hatch too.

Re: Wrap Around Spoiler-1988 Firebird

Old thread but thought bringing it back might help me get and answer.

My friend found this wing on ebay for a 1988 GTA he was working on. The body shop tried to install it but said it wouldn't fit (too narrow I think).
It "looks" the same. My 1989 Formula needs a new wing and I was thinking about trying another body shop to see if they can get it to work on mine.

Without taking my old spoiler off its hard to tell. I did measure the top and its showing narrower at the spot I checked.

We were also wondering if maybe other years had different sizes of this spoiler style or were they all the same?

Any help is appreciated.

Re: Wrap Around Spoiler-1988 Firebird

I purchased a spoiler from a company in CA and it was off by over an inch, had to return that one
The second one did fit, with some adjustsments to make the clips work, its closer to the original but not perfect
ordered from Hawks but they sub contracted out to a company in AL, its on the car now and looks good
Try Hawks, see if they will commit to the units they fabricate in house, probably will be the best fit
good luck

Re: Wrap Around Spoiler-1988 Firebird

I bought a showcar robs and took it to a body shop. Said it would be thousands to make it right. So I bought a hawks. It was an inch narrow and 1/2 inch short from the origional. I measured the showcar. Right on. I spent the hours fixing what was lacking.
if you can live with it being smaller do hawks.. They're finish is awesome.. I wasnt compromising.
