Factory Notchback Hatch

I know this is a long shot, but does anyone here have one? Reason i ask is years ago i picked up a factory notchback hatch from a guy and im trying to get a better idea of what random small parts i may be missing to get it full functional. Mainly interested in how the window is held in place. One way or another i plan on getting it fixed up and on my car but resources make things easier. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: Factory Notchback Hatch

As for mounting the glass, my factory one had rubber/brass well nuts installed into the fiberglass with holes through the glass which small, i think #8 screws fit.
I also have 2 other hatches but can't remember 100% how the glass was mounted in those. Its been many year since I've looked at them. I also have an exploded part diagram showing all components and part numbers. PM since I'll forget to look for the files.

I am looking for a white (or any) notchback hatch. Do you have one for sale?

I just picked up a factory notchback without the glass. Anyone know what can be used for the window? Glass shop says they can't do it. Plexiglass maybe?

Use Lexan. Plexi can yellow and craze over time, it also can crack especially where you drill it.

The glass shop did mention lexan margard. Said they did some mud truck windshields with it. $500-$600 a sheet!

Interesting that they said they could not do it in glass. My neighbor used to build a new hotrod each winter, cruise it in the summer, sell it in the fall and start again. He used a local glass shop to replace all the windows in the cars, except the windshields. But it had to be flat glass (which his always were in the '30s/'40s cars that he built.

This notch glass isn't flat. From a diagram I have and from what the glass shop told me, it's curved.

Re: Factory Notchback Hatch

I honestly couldn't remember if it was curved or not. Its been a while since I handled a loose one. I just looked and yes, it has a curve from side to side, more so at the bottom, like it flares out.
Lexan would be your best bet. I had a Lexan rear window on my '01 camaro ss for a short time. Couldn't tell it wasn't glass other than no defroster lines, and the hardware around the edges.

I still wish I could find notchback hatch struts...
