My driver's side wiper arm popped off and took a chunk of the gearing attached to the wiper transmission with it. This looks riveted in - Can I replace just the spindle or do I have to get a whole new wiper assembly and arm? I've attached a picture for reference. You can see I'm holding the little nub that broke away from the teeth. Thanks!
IIRC, that little nub (besides aligning the arm) also holds the wiper arm in place. There is a little swing lever on the wiper arm the releases the arm to remove it. This lever stops under that nub preventing the arm from slipping out. That said, the spindle comes out once those three bolts are undone and the linkage on the arm is popped off the ball of the spindle (arrow).
You dont need to remove the motor, but if you cant pop the ball socket at the spindle. The linkage can be removed form the other end, then slip the spindle/linkage out and separate the spindle off the car.
I bought a replacement arm and just stuck it on in place snug without the nubbin to hold it steady, which will work for a while but really isn't a permanent solution. Ultimately I'll probably have to replace the entire assembly since I don't see anywhere online where individual pieces of the wiper transmission can be purchased that would allow me to replace just the spindle, and no junkyards near me have what I'm looking for.
If anyone knows of a resource to nab just the spindle, that would be awesome. Otherwise it looks like I'm hitting up ebay.
