I know it's different but how different??

My dad found a dash (pad) from an 89 bird in perfect condition for $40 I know the dashes are different 82-84 85-92 but what exactly is the difference and could this 89 dash be put into my 82 and fit correctly?
Thanks!

I think (but don't quote me) that the only difference was the later dashes were more rounded in the front (part that faces you). You won't have the little design ridges facing you

true--the 1st design dash pads were flat on the edge--the later dash pads will fit w/no problems. I know someone that has an 84 Camaro and put in a newer dash pad--fits like a glove!

It will fit, my 83 T/A parts car dash pad looks Identical to my 87, EXCEPT for the shape on the edge. the mounting holes even appear to be in the same place...

Heck, If you wre close enough, I would say, drive up and we will swap, I think my 83 T/A one is good condition. But you live in Colorado, so that might be a little long of a drive.

Thanks for the offer okfoz, but yea a bit of a drive. I was looking at the one in the Camaro and the difference that I see is the more robustnes and a the rounder edges. I'll just buy it and if it dont work keep it for the other car or take it back.
Thanks guys for the help.

Sell it on e-bay, good condition dash pads seem to be going for at least $50 or more there.

by the time they sell on ebay there going more like a $100 but are all around 50 until the last few moments. I check constintly, mine is cracked in two spots from front to rear, the corner is torn to peices and barely hangeing on and the driv speaker grill has fallen through. I am going to use the vinyl/leather repair kit from pepboys to fix the cracks and the corner and use spray foam on the grills (since i don't have speakers under there) and sand it down and then cover it with a peice of vinyl or leather. I want a different color than black, thats, why i doing this, if all goes to plan ill be saving money (defiantly not the case if i use leather, man that stuff is expensive)

my 83 bird has seen a dash board from both a 89 and a 92 and the both fit perfectly except for the four phillips head screw seem different, but its fits right in and looks a lot better than the stock 82-82, one other difference is the speaker vents are different, so you cant interchange those

Always check your local J/Y's I happened upon a perfect dash for my SC,For FREE I bought the front clip off of a IROC and asked Rick how much for the dash and he said just take it if you pull the pull down hatch assembly for me.
