New 4th Gen Console pics inside!!!
Here it is, finally. I had to do a little customization to make the window buttons fit (see pic # 2). Painted the 5 Speed insert too...

If you're good with fiberglass and can afford to keep the car in pieces for about a week then you can definatly make a custom radio pocket. I'm sure I could do it, but not on my daily driver.

Looks good. Mine will be in this weekend. Why not try and use a Firebird pod with this console for a Camaro?

What color is that? All fourth gen consoles aren't that color are they? That has to be the best swamp I've seen yet. If I diden't know better I'd think that was stock. Everything looks awesome...now I need to find one!
Great job,
Matt

Well, the Console Base Is the stock grey, which the whole thing was. I ended up painting the upper 5 speed insert in gloss black. It came out pretty good, and the paint seems like its gonna hold up for a long time!
looks like you mixed the lower console, from one color, to another color shift plate... looks cool....
nah, cleanest install is partly going to be to nosaints.
mine is close.. but ive yet to really come up with a plate for the window switches....
let me know what you guys think......

I like your plate for the switches, looks very good.
My friend made a plate for me tonight so that I could drive around with my console on. He did a pretty good job with it too.
It's not attached into the ashtray area yet, it's just sitting in there for now.

Does it feel right? It looks great, and I've been thinking about doing this when I change my seats and carpet this spring, but I was curious if it feeeeeeeeels right. I love how my arm rests on the glove box now and I can rest on it. This looks too high for that purpose or when my GF wants to tie my shoes and other :lala: misc activities while I'm driving.

The other holder is useless to me since I have a manual tranny, my arm will hit whatever is in there.

I finished installing mine this past weekend. The only problem I ran into was mounting the window switches. How did you guys attach the plate into the ashtray area? I eventually wound up using two small screws to keep it down since the wiring seems to be stiff enough to try and push it up along with the switches.
Also-what about--if you have them--the pwr mirror switch?
I've seen the window and mirror switch together in the ashtray-but it looks too crowded. Maybe something like they're installed in the 3rd gen consoles. Has anyone done that yet? I keep mine tucked under the switches right now--since it's been too cold to work on the car. I was thinking off cutting a hole in the console somewhere--still undecided tho.
What do you guys think?

I dont have any close ups of it, but with my window switches I used bondo..(yes Bondo, A lot of custom interior people use it for stuff) to fill in the ashtray area around the switches so it looks like there was never anything there except switches. I still been to add a little bit more bondo, sand it again, and match the paint to the console, but here is what it looks like untill I do that stuff.

bondo is easy, I just put a panel in the bottom to get the switches in the rite location, then filled in around the switches, let it dry, added more, let it dry, till it built up thick enough and sanded it smoote, it still isnt perfect yet though I just got bored.

Maybe not.... I read on the board a little while ago that the 93-96 Camaro console doesn't directly swap in like a Firebird console. Make sure it fits first before you hack it up!

Hey, 86FyrBrd: I saw your picture of the console and I also noticed that you have the white faced gages. They look pretty good for the day, but how do they look at night with the backlighting?

They are the Macewen overlays, so the original gauge/face is still behind it, and I still have orange bulbs in. so for the most part at night it looks like nothing is changed, I mean if you look at the area of the gauge where the needle casts light you can see its white, but besides that its normal.
