It is the lower retractor on the floor by the door. Is there a way to get this thing off to paint it without breaking it? I see where you could cut it in the back, up to the rivet that holds it on, but I really don't want to have to do that. Muchos thank you.

nope you will need to remove the whole seat belt to remove the peice. it is attached to the belt retration reel.

I hate that thing too. But I really hate the one that always falls from the ceiling. ANy good way to fix it.

If your talking about the plastic peice up there that keeps falling down, yeah, its pretty easy to fix as long as its all there You just gotta stick the longer end of it along the headliner resting on-top of the Sail pannel. After that you could either use some type of adhesive, or, be a g0d damned dumb-mother-of-judas and just go drilling a screw into the cieling (Like the guy who owned my car before me did, come to think of it, I've found alot of 'Afro Engineered' holding mechanisms.... which usually consist of some random screw drilled into the body...g0d I hate the guy who owned this before me)

Oh, and Rocky, isn't the plastic peice held on by somthing that resembles a pop-rivet? I just yanked my interior out, though I didn't mess with those to much (Since the carpet slide out from under them.). All I know is that you gotta have a big a$$ torx bit to get that bolt out, then everything is eaisier to get at. But if it is a pop rivet, you could just file the end off and put a new one in later.... pop rivet guns are only like $10 bux at the local auto-parts store.... and there fun to mess with to!!!

While we are talking seatbelts ... my local chevy dealer sold me the replacement internal belt pieces (red button, metal pieces) but would not install them (even though there was a recall).

I thought I could just pop open the plastic casing, replace new parts and snap back together.

I must be mechanically challenged because I cannot get the plastic casing to open ... do I need a special tool and just more brut force ?

Just drill out the rivet, takes a couple of seconds. Problem is it'll still be on the seat belt.

The buttons should somehow pop out of the receivers. What I'd like to know is how to change the belt itself? I've got a set of front belts in black with no fading at all but the retractors are screwed... if I could swap the belts over to a good set of retractors I could save myself $200.

From the top it does look like a pop rivet. I have the t-50 torx bit to get the retractor assembly out. I guess once I get it out, I'll be able to mess with it better and if I can't get it off without messing something up, I'll just mask off the seat belt and paint it still on the assembly.

I had to superglue one of the top seat belt hole covers in my car to the headliner. That's pretty sad about the previous owner of your car drilling a hole in it. He must have been an idiot.

It sounds like it would be a real job to just change the belt. It may be one of those all day jobs and you still have to buy something new anyway.
