Hey guys,
How do I get into my car. I locked my keys in it and I can't find my spare keys. If I dont' find them, how do I get into my car? To keep this Body and Interior related, how do I do this without messing those items up? Let me know, I need that car. Thanks

 

You should be able to pull on the top of the windows, just enough to get your arm in there, and reach the lock. or slide a hanger in from the back of the window, and unlock it. or if you have a slimjim, go at it that way.

 

Becareful if you decide to slide your arm in through the window to unlock it. I did the exact same thing and got my arm half way down and the window shaddered I guess it must have been my big forearm, did I mention I work out?

 

find a cop.....only takes them about 25 seconds and it won't damage anything.

 

if u have ttops put a wedage between the ttop and window and widow and the side of the door or the side ofthe window. then get like a nice long coat hanger or sumthing stiff to angle it into the lock and then push and there u wont mess up the paint or body. i know this becuz my friend locked his keys in his trans am and the towing company had to do that and took them like 30seconds. well hope it helps.

i did the same thing a week ago use a 2 foot long piece of metal with a 90 degree turn that goes on for about 3 inches put it in at the top corner of the glass {tards the back of the car}and pull the lock back it takes 30 seconds

 

Get a piece of cardboard, a screw driver, and a meter/yard stick. Mind you that the process only works if you've got a hatch release button. Pry the window with the screw driver but use the cardboard against the weather stripping to prevent damage. Slide the meter stick in and use the screw driver to lower the window just a smidge. Hit the hatch release button and you're in.

 

If you have power hatch release you can try to reach the button with something and pop the hatch.Hanger on the lock latch is the other good suggestion

 

It really sucks that these cars are so easy to get into

 

Call a locksmith and have him unlock it for $20 or so. Or, you can take two slim wedges and slip them between the window and the rubber on the door when it slides down. Then, you can slide something down the gap and hook the lock mechanism with and slide it unlocked.

 

i tried the old prying the window back from the t-top trick last fall when i had loaned out my door key, but not my ignition key (dont ask), i borrowed a yard stick, and tried to use it to push the lock lever, but the window would only budge maybe 1/4" MAXIMUM. now i hear about people reaching down in between the window and the top. do they have real loose windows, or are mine exceptionally solid?

 

Use the plastic credit card key in your wallet. Oops, sorry. That requires planning ahead. Lon

 

i got in one the other day by prying it out and sliding my arm, it was a 2001 so i dunno maybe.....you can do it with vettes too

 

Macgyver would tell you to use some bubble gum, a piece of string and a penny to make a remote control that would automatically unlock the door.

 

If you have T-Tops, you should be able to unlatch the T-Top with a screwdriver between the top and window, then remove it. A cop told me to lock my tops because this was a common way to get into them.
Don't know if it will work, never tried.

 

hey here is an idea which i don't know why no one follows....get your keys to Wal-Mart(BEFORE they got lock in the car) Spend 3 dollars and get a spare set(I have 4 ) Take the extra set and put it in a ziplock and wrap the extra around the keys, then put that bag in another zip lock.....wrap it again but leave enought to punch a whole through the outer bag...not the inner and ZIP tie it to the under side of the car.....there are lots of hidden places for them....Saved my *** may times...same with my friends, my fathers my mothers etc etc(my friend also has a set of keys to my car.....but that is for other reasons...like kim being able to move it at work so a machine(back-hoe, dozer etc) does not hit it when they work near it..... )

I hate when that happens. Thats why im designing a fingerprint activated door lock so you don't need a key.

Well, my method is really quite primitive, but it's effective enough. I carry two key chains... one has my car door key, my ignition key and my sliding door key to the house. The other has the main door key to my house and a spare door key for the car, along with my mom's spare car key. So if I lock my keys in my car I can get into my house and my car with either key chain. I once locked myself out of my car on a very cold night with only my sweat shirt on... I have carried the two key chains ever since (a month ago) and have already locked myself out of the car again... not a problem though since I can't lock myself out completely any more.

 

I have two sets to both my cars. I keep one, and my wife keeps one. I also have something that I am surprised has not already been suggested. ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE FROM THE INSURANCE COMPANY!!!! Cheaper than AAA with the same benefits!
