Door cupholders installation

I got ahold of a pair of the cup holders that mount on the doors but, didn't get any mounting hardware or see how they were attached. I understand that there should be holes in the door to accomodate them. The holes in the plastic pieces themselves are awfully large and it looks like there is some kind of insert and bolt cover involved. Anyone got any pictures of what the mounting hardware looks like or better yet, pictures of these things being installed? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

when I installed them in my 85 TA I didn't have the holes there , so I had to drill 3 holes and use some sheet metal screws

not a big deal , biggest deal is finding a place on the door where you can use all 3 screws...

had it in there for about a year and so far no problems , only great benefits :-) (and it looks cool too :-D )

I don't know if this holds true for the older years. But my 90 RS already had the square holes in the inner door frame where the map pocket/cup holder mounts. They take the style of plastic insert used commonly on license plate holders. I just carefully marked the location of those holes onto the back cardboard of the door trim and poked through with an awl. One of the better mod's I've done on the interior I must say. Lon

The cupholders came out in 1990 on firebirds only. Any thirdgens 82-89 won't have the holes. 90-up should have the square holes that use a threaded nylon insert. The bolts are the same as the short bolts used on the armrests. The trim caps are about $4 each, the cupholders are $35 each, they're available in gray, black, and tan. The gray cupholders don't match. GM screwed up the dye lots so the drivers side cupholders in gray won't match the trim caps or the passengers side cupholder.

I've got a set in Gray, with the dye mismatch I mentioned, for sale. Email me if anyones interested.

Always count on drew for the correct info.

Now I see someone drilled there own holes? COuld I drill my own hole in my camaro door and install one of these?

Or possibly get a small piece of wood, stick it behind the door panel and screw the sucker into that?

Mike, the doors are the same I think you will prolly have the same set up as the people who put them in. The only problem is if you have manual windows in the new car your a bit screwed cuz i dont think the window **** will go all around.
