The 98's and newer are still considered 4th Gen's. The 4th generation F-Body style came into play in 1993, when they changed over from our Thirdgen style(8?-92). Since its introduction in 1993, the 4th Generation cars have remained basically the same-however, just like with the Corvettes from 84-96, they did change the front and rear fascias(starting in 98), and did do some interior changes(seats, digital odometer on dash, radio was slightly different, console changes). And of course, after 98, the LS1 was the engine available in the TA, instead of the LT1. But, back to the topic, all Trans Am's and Camaro's from 1993 to 2002 are 4th Generation F-Bodys. This, unfortunetly, is also the last model year for these awesome machines.
If and when GM brings them back, THEN it will be the 5th Generation F-Body.

Actually they didnt just change the front and rear fascias on the Vette in '97, it was and all around make over and the '97 through Present is the "C5" (Fifth Generation) where the '84 to '96 was the "C4" (Fourth Generation). Those are two different generations.
The Camaro changed in '97 and the Firebird in '98 but those are still fourth gens, and he mentioned what was changed when that happened.
btw - the third gen F-Body was '82 to '92

That is true...since I own a C5, I guess I should have been more specific about the Corvettes. The C5(available starting in 1997), was an entirely new design from the ground up for the Corvette. Nothing from the previous generations was used mechanically or structurally speaking...not one bolt, engine component, etc. Everything was new. From the hydroformed steel underbody, to the built-in rollcage(designed into the one-piece underbody), to insulating materials...everything. The C5 is a remarkale achievement. A very solid and fast car. I did however, say that the C4 generation ran from 84-96...during that time period, just like with the Camaro's and Trans Am's, they changed facia's, interior components, and with the Corvette especially..engines...I just forgot to specify that the C5 was a new generation...my mistake.:hail:
