how the hell do I keep my ash tray slot from opening????

my ash trays little cover door slot thing always opens when I brake and stop, its really flimsy when it is closed and easily opens for the slightest brake, what can I do to it to make it stay closed?

I had the same problem. There's a spring/clip on the underside of the panel that the ashtray sits in. It's probably broken or fell out. It's a V shaped piece of wire with a curl at the point of the V (that's the springy part.)

I looked for one in the junkyard to see how it worked, and then pocketed the spring.
