whats the point of the insulation, wouldn't just keep the hot air in?

It has several purposes...

its an insulator
it insulates the hood
it insulates the engine
it deadens engine noise
theoretically it acts as a flame arester (this is a long shot but it was part of the design)
etc etc etc... besides that it makes the car look clean when you show it. $20-40 from any GM dealership, you can't go wrong.

What the part numbver on that hood liner? And what is hard to just install?

Di it in any way increase under hood temp?

Thx bud, cuz i really like those pics you gave us, i think im gonna do the same install as you, cuz the i know for two reasons why the dealer one is bad.

1. I looks like crap

2. It does catch on fire When i had my engine fire, the damm insulator was a blaze

Thx

Well I left my summit catalog at work so I can't look it up but I went to there site and can't find it,,BUT here is the site of the people who make it,,here it is. http://www.dynamat.com/ I think it's $69.00,,click on the link for a dealer near you..
It's easy to put in with some help.I tempararally put tape around mine, because I have holes cut on the inside of my hood and didn't want the wind to blow it down into my fan ,,althoug it dose have an adhesive back to stick to your hood.I wanted it to have time to stick good..
As for a temp. diffrence I dont know because I also did a motor swap at the same time.My car runs about 180° on a hot day like today.
It cost more than the stock stuff but,,,It looks alot better.personal preferance.
