4th gen console in camaro VERY possible

To those who said that putting a 4th gen console in a camaro is a PITA, well it took me and my buddy about an hour, maybe two to complete it today. REAL easy! I got a 97 console from a trans am.... perfectly fits my 95 Black Camaro Power Leather seats... How come 95 Black camaro is nearly the exact same thing as 97 Gray Trans am? Hmmm go figure. I will have pictures soon, along with my power seats which a lot of people have asked about.

A couple of things... Yes you will have to customize your heater controls and stereo area. A lot of people have said use a firebird radio pod I am sure it would work, but I am going the custom route. Since my stereo was stolen a long time ago... It leaves me a lot of options

Also the 4th gen interior is much more comfortable than the third gen one. The console is contoured to how a leg should rest in the car which is great for us tall guys, the seats blow away my old ones for comfort by g o d knows how much...

Yes this is just my opinion, but it not only looks great, but the functionality is second to none. The third gen consoles, at least on the camaro's, are big box's that hurt on long drives... Bring on vegas with the new console

Hope to get the digital camera out and get a few quick shots tomorrow. Thanks to the many firebird guys who posted so that I had a place to start. With guys like you (you know who you are) we will continue to have a great resource here.

James

I did it a while back. you have to cut the apart that radio area. i just need to get some new carpeting for mine and it would look pretty good.

Ya Fire, LOL I thought I would be the first one to do it on here. I should have bought the console before all my new stereo stuff NOT, lol. But congrats on the install. I plan on using the radio pod I got from a firebird for mine. Just need the 97+ Console now. But I keep buying different stuff instead, lol. Oh well

I am currently working on this project too, but im not going the custom route. I want the firebird pod, do I got one. After a lot of fittin tests and stuff, A Lot of hacking, but As soon as I finish building my custom mount (The firebird pod mounts different) Ill post pics.

Anything you want to do will have to be custom, getting it to look good is the hard part.

A couple of L brackets is all we are using Should notice the openning once you remove the old console. Not sure still might go carbon fiber... Any ideaS?

im not a fan of carbon fiber, i think i am going to use wood that is covered in black carpet to fill the hole, but not sure on that...Once I have some time I will try to get some more done on this project...
