turn signal stem

Got an 89 rock. Does anyone know if the turn signal stem can be replaced without replacing the entire switch assy. All the printing on mine is gone. Have delayed wipers and cruise. TNX, Danno

Yep, you can replace the stem without replacing the switch. You have to take the wheel and lock plate off the column but that dosn't take too long. The hard part is getting the wire down the column. You can get the stem at year one for $50.

My 86 Sport Coupe had the wrong turn signal stem and they simply pulled the stem right out of the column. They didn't have to take the wheel off at all and it has variable wipers and all. (Except for cruise control, even though the car is meant for it and still has some of the gear in the engine compartment.) So I don't think the 89s would have retrogressed into wires snaking around.

Maybe, though.

I'm pretty sure the wire was for cruise control.
