Its possible. I don't know the exact steps to doing so, but you should be able to figure it out. Take off the trim plate and I think there might be some screws holding the radio in. I'm sure someone can help you in more detail if you need it.
unscew trim around radio. then there will be 4 screws. undo all those. then pull out the stereo. there will be 3 wire connectors in the back, undo those. then take out the antenna. you now have one stero in your hands. If you are putting in a new cd player with a instulation kit you will prob have to take the brackeys of the sides of the old radio and put them on the side of the kit.

Yeah, some people would rather ask before trying it cause they are afraid to mess it up. Though I agree, it is kinda hard to mess up, but nothing wrong with askin first.
Also, I dont know what year car you have, but on my 91 camaro. The trim plate only has 3 screws. the upper left corner is tucked behind the gauge cluster part of the dash. After taking out the 3 torx screws just pull the trim plate down and to the right (not back and to the left, like JFK)

A. This is kinda a dumb question.
B. Too late, you asked.
C. Yes it can be removed.
I have done it several times.
But we do have a Board speciffically dedicated to this question. It's called the Car Audio board. It is right below the Body and Interrior board (the one you are in right now). Go there when you have questions of this type. The people might be a little more receptive...
