Well what da ya know. I learn something new every day. I had never seen anything like that before (though I never owned or looked at any pre 85 birds) I must admit it looks rather cheesy. I just assumed it was aftermarket, especially since leg room is at a premium to begin with, why would you want to take any away.

It is more confertable on the leg during longer rides. I am not that tall of a guy so leg room really isnt a problem for me. I was looking on my build sheet but a section is torn away and I dont see anything that really says knee bad or cushion. The car originally came with carpeted rear panels, so would it be part of the deluxe interior or something?

hmm, I dunno, I did a quick scan in the parts & illustration catalog and came up with nothing, I found nothing associated with the center console or the dash that looked like that...
I know that does not help...

In my never ending quest to find 82-84 Firebird parts I have come across alot of firebirds with the leg rest pad on the console. It is a factory item I would suppose since I have seen so many of them.
Most of them are trashed to bits or all that is left is the mounting bracket.
I would like to have one in my car because it is really uncomfortable to rest my knee on the hard plastic.
Sorry, I couldn't tell you what the option is.
