Moving Radio and Climate control

I did a search on this but could not find anything. I know
some people have already done this on a Thirdgen.

I switched the Radio and Climate Control around because
I like it better that way with the radio on top. In the newer
cars you will notice it is also set up this way.

The only problem I am having is the factory Radio Climate control
plate that covers this stuff up will no longer fit since I switched them. I was wondering what to use to make a new custom
one that will fit. I thought about fiberclass or wood. Does
anybody have any ideas????
Custom install Pictures would be GRRRRRREAT!!!

THANKS!

Couldn't you turn the cover up side down and do a little trimming to it or modifying.

If you want to cover it, you can use the original, cut out the opening to fit, and cover it with something.(vinyl, leather, carpet) That way it will fit perfectly.

I may try cutting the old one but I am not sure it is going
to work. The thing is that the top side is shorter then
the bottom by like a 1/4" or so. You can't really tell by
looking at it unless u measure. Therefore flipping it will
not work.
Some others have suggested fiberglass
and fabircate a trim panel, thin mdf or medite wood, or even
abs plastic.
I might try one of those but not really sure which one or
where to start. I know I have seen custom installs on
this. Anybody have Pictures????

Thanks again!!!

I wouldnt use mdf, that stufss pretty heavy. If your going to use wood and cover it, just use plywood or something thats light but sturdy. You can buy pine sections at your local home improvement store.

Do a search for the plastic, there's a site that explained it an it didn't seem to hard. Betcha that would be a good bet

never seen what you have done, i have thought about it; but ran into the same problem an didn't want to have to modify my piece.

i have seen several cars where the head units were placed up above where the top 2 vents are......that looked pretty cool.

i suppose with a head unit like yours that it might be easier to see in that area, with a monitor unit, it's too difficult because of the main guage section to your upper left.

nice idea though.

I am going to figure something out and get it to work.
May take alot of time but I'll figure it out. I was looking
at the flush mounts people have done and those are
really cool. I think I am gonna attempt that with
thin wood....

Thanks

Since you've decided on wood... check out Hobby Lobby (if you have them...) or a Radio Control hobby shop for model plywood. Very thin but very strong.
