Removing sound deadening worth it?
I have half my interior ripped up right now so I figure if I am going to do stuff in there, do it now. How much weight is saved ripping up the sound deadening? Is it worth the hassle? How much louder is it? The noise from my exhaust pretty much dominates the interior noise now anyway.
it will be extremely loud, however that sound deadening material is very heavy so you could save a lot of weight, there is this stuff that looks like a spray in bed liner that is supposed to be really good at sound deadening, but i cant remember what it is called, sorry, i'll ask again tonight and post the name of it later.
Oh man its loud. I drove around with no inerior for a couple of days. You can hear EVERYTHING, fuel pump, injecters, rain, birds poopin' on it. Probably not a good idea for a daily driver, but that padding and stuff weighs well over 30 lbs.

I used the spray sound proofing and am happy with the results. you could try just using it. the sound proofing in those cars also acts as a heat shield. you may notice the floor hotter then you remember.

All I can say is not only is it heavy as all hell it also holds in moisture. I currently have my entire interior out and am sand blasting it. The damn padding held in so much moisture that it is all rust. I am going to repaint it and put dyna mat down and KEEP DAMP RID in the car!

It sounds like the weight savings is good. So does the spray on sound eliminator work well enough to justify ripping up the sound deadening?

I know it helps make it quiter. I can't say if it would make up the difference or not. I sprayed the whole car down when I swapped the carpet. I put thermoshield back down as well though. I'm not sure what it would do alone.
I wanted the car to not rattle and buzz with my sound system, so I sprayed it down. I even sprayed the underside of the car. I also added sub carpet to the back of all the panels in the car. It made one heck of a difference. With the doors and hatch open you hear the bass. Close up the car and you can't hear it.
Who knows how much weight I actually added in sound deadner. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
