Convert rear drum to LS1 disc OR LS1 front brake mod???
Hey guys....Christmas coming up and I finally have time (2 weeks) to work on the car. I'm getting a check from Pepboys after they dented by hood (@400) during an oil change and am torn between buying a 4th gen posi disc rear OR going though the LS1 front brake upgrade.
Currently, I have a 2.73 open drum rear with leaky axle seals. Hard to find a 98+ 2.73 disc posi rear, so I planned on buying one online for $350....+ a 91 disc/disc prop valve.
Or there is always the LS1 upgrade for the fronts.
Which would you choose if you had just enough to do either one? Is there a nice diff in braking when adding 4th gen banksia rear disc setup to a prev drum setup?

Upgrading the front brakes will see you a difference in braking.
Going posi in the rear with disc brakes will see much less.
However, the posi is going to help straight line acceleration. (traction off the line)
This is a hard decision you have to make

Yep....I'm thinking fronts too. Plus I really don't feel like pulling the entire rear suspension out during my vacation, hunting for an ebrake line and changing the prop valve. Time to find a machine shop.
Thanks for your opnions.

Not true about 4th gen wheels. I could use them for appearance, but using 3rd gen wheels only makes the tires stick out an extra 1" per side. I have spacers on already. Without those they'll stick stick out more than stock, but some like it because they think it looks more aggressive.
I don't know about that, but I've seen pictures and its not that much a difference to be considered ugly.

Nope, you can bolt the 3rd gen wheels right on. They will come out to the edge of the wheelwell, maybe a but further if you have wide tires out back.

hey ed....check out the lastest ABS install posting. I've been looking into it a little past few months. Anyway I just posted some good info that might make it work. Would like your opinion. It isn;t one of those "for or against" posts. Its just to see if it could happen for a reasonable $$ posts.

Unless the disc rear will have a better axle ratio, I'd upgrade the fronts first, then the backs.
