1998+ LS1 Rear Brake Pad Question

Does the brake pad with the wear indicator go on the inside/inboard side or on the outside?
Thanks in advance!

Not positive on the '98 LS1 rear's. However, the '92 rear with PBR's the wear sensor is on the inboard shoe trailing the forward direction of rotation.

Thanks for the reply RBob.
On the front brakes, the wear indicator is on the inboard brake pad. According to the Haynes manual, on the rear brakes the outside brake pad is supposed to be the one with the wear indicator. However, when I was replacing the rear pads, the wear indicator was on the inside pad. I do not know if the Haynes is a misprint or the previous owner installed the rear brake pads incorrectly.

I'd go with the inside pad how RBob described it.

I can't say for sure since I don't have a diagram on hand, but every one I've seen has had the wear indicator on the inner pad, at the top of the caliper trailing the forward rotation of the rotor. Honestly, it doesn't matter which side it's on as long as it's on the trailing end of the rotor rotation.

Thanks Ed and RBob.
I think I will install the pad with the wear indicator on the inboard side with the indicator at the top position.
That is the way I installed it the first time (all new GM OEM components), however, the pad came off somehow and by the time I got home from work the caliper and rotor were toast!
I had to buy a new caliper and rotor and plan to install everything again this morning.
I ask several people at work and they said the brake pad probably separated and fell off. I have never had this happen before in all my years.
I do not see how the pad could come off except for separating itself from the pad mount or whatever it's called. The repair manuals were throwing me off because it specifically/clearly states "on the rears, the wear indicator goes on the outside pad with wear indicator at the bottom position."
Thanks again for the input.

Got any pics of the old caliper? I'd like to see that.
