Is there a differance between the 89 pbr disc brake set up and the 88 9bolt setup with cast iron crap calipers, as far as the rotor thickness is concerend? Any info would be great.

Rotor thickness? No..they're both .81" thick.

If your using the pbr's, its cheaper and easier to find 93up camaro rotors. They bolt right up. I got em on my junkyard 9-bolt with pbr's.

9 Bolt Brake

If the Rotors are the same (1LE 11.65" Rotors) - Third Gen to Fourth Gen...The question is; are the PBR aluminum calipers the same, or will they mount to the 9 bolt backing plate? Thanks, Ed.

PBRs use different backing plates. This is a good thing, since 88 9-bolt disc backing plates can be pretty hard to find.

PBR's 89-97 are pretty much the same and will bolt to 9- or 10-bolt backing plates. Check the following link for info that may be helpful:

There's a slight difference in the way the 4th gen and 3rd gen plates are made but they are essentially the same.

9 Bolt Brake question

I have the 1LE rear brakes on a 1989 9Bolt rear axle assembly (Installed in my 1984 Z), and I'm going to rebuild the rear calipers, replace the discs, and pads. I have assumed that the 9 bolt was from a 1989 IROC with the 1LE optional brakes. The calipers are PBR Aluminum, and the discs are 11.65”dia. So with this in mind if I get rebuild parts for the calipers for a 1989 IROC to 1997 Z28 rear caliper, this should work?

I have found through Parts America a rebuild kit for the rear calipers, p/n D352746...I will take the caliper in with me to check to see if this is the correct p/n on a correct kit.

Does any body know of an all inclusive kit to rebuild these calipers? (correct kit and correct p/n) Should the piston be replaced at the same time?

Thanks, Ed.

All '89-97 rear disc cars got "1LE" brakes. All rear PBR calipers from '89-97 will use the same rebuild kit, and yes it's all inclusive. You won't need to replace the piston unless it's damaged, sticks, or is corroded. Those are available separately.

Auto Zone, Brakeware kit #60196, around $12.
