C5 Brake Swap - Flared or Metric Fittings – Year GM Switched

Guys, I have a couple of questions for you.

What year did GM go from flared to metric fittings on our F-bodies?

The reason I’m asking is because I’m performing the C5 swap on my car and would like to know a master cylinder to use and if the C5 stock brake hoses will work on my ’85 Camaro.

Any help would be appreciated!

I think ebmiller88 did that swap. You might want to search for posts by him.

I did a search for ebmiller88 and got a lot of hits. After reading a few of the posts, I don't think Ed did this modification (I think he did the C4), but he usually chimes in.

I don't know your search parameters, but here's just one of the numerous hits I got:

I saw one post on C5 brakes that had more than five pages of replies.

Try your search again.

I'm in the middle of the swap right now. The brake hose fittings are 10mm. I don't know if the vette hoses will fit or not...I threw the ones that came with my used calipers out since I wanted stainless hoses. I got a great deal on them from Paragon Performance. Do a search online for them. They might not have them listed on their site yet but he made them for me.

As for the master....I'm convinced the stock one will work after discussing it with a few people.

Cool! Thanks guys!

I'm guessing I'll need a master cylinder with a bore of 24mm to be able to get the line pressure I need for the C5 calipers.

I am also installing C5 brakes on my '84. I called Classic Tube and they are making a set of Stop Flex hoses with the Camaro chassis fittings and the Corvette caliper fittings, no adapters. They take orders over the phone only. 800-882-3711 if you are intrested. They also will custom build SS hard lines.

I believe that you can use your stock hoses and you just need to get the banjo bolts that fit the calipers. I'm got all the stuff at home. I haven't tried to hook up the hoses yet but I can look tonight. If you are still running stock rubber hoses you should upgrade to braided.
check out this tutorial.

The stock hoses work fine. You just need the vette banjo bolts. I tried it out this morning.

Isn't the bore on the Stock master 15/16"? I could be mistaken, but that's the # that comes to mind. Not too much difference from 24mm.

1" or 15/16", depending on whether it was a J50 or J65 car.
