ls1 brakes?

is there a sticky that i missed for this??? i was looking and didnt see, i thought i posted about this a while ago but maybe i typed it and forgot to submit...

what do u have to do to put LS1 breaks on a third gen?... if i get the calipers/pads, rotors from a 98+ what mods or parts will i need to retrofit this brake system??? please dont respond with "no u cant do it" someone already said that and i know its not true there is just a little more involved then simply bolting the rotors and calipers up... thanks for your help with this and if this topic isnt a sticky please make it one so others can be informed, thanks

Re: ls1 brakes?

i always thought the article was in the tech section, but i guess i was mistaken. pretty much, you have to cut the stock caliper mounting parts off the spindle and drill/tap out the dustshield holes to bolt on the caliper relocation brackets that you can buy from many places. Then you have to buy custom hubs, or mill the stock hubs down to fit inside the ls1 calipers, and install longer wheels studs. Or you can buy the complete setup with ls1, corvette c5 calipers from BigBrakeUpgrade, or 3rdGen's very own edmiller.

I know there is a article about doing this somewhere, but i cant find it, i think i got all the steps right.

Re: ls1 brakes?

It can be done fairly easily. I offer the hubs and conversion brackets as well as full kits to minimize your workload. Should you want to look it over, here's the link to the R&D thread on LS1 brakes:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/faq-...s1-brakes.html

I've got it down pat now and rest assured steer you straight. If you have your own brakes I can hook you up with the rest.

Absolutely. As always things don't go as planned. I got your phone message and hope to get back to you around 8AM this morning (Mon), I'll review what I wrote down from out last conversation.

Many thanks for the patience.

Ed

Re: ls1 brakes?

The front brakes see full pressure at all times so for a front swap your stock prop is fine. I only recommend making changes if the rear brakes are addressed as well. If swapping the rears, I recommend a disc prop or an adjustable one.
