Should I get new rotors turned?

About six months ago, I replaced my rotors and pads from Autozone. Just recently, the car developed a shake when I hit the brakes. My mechanic says sometimes new rotors are warped and may need to be turned. Has anyone else come upon something like this?
Thanks

Re: Should I get new rotors turned?

My friend who is the service manager for a tire and brake place said that they turn all new rotors out of the box. Even though the vast majority are fine, they don't want customer come-backs for warped rotors. For his own cars, though, he doesn't bother and I never have, either. I would have thought that warped rotors out of the box would have shown up immediately after installing, not after six months.

It all depends on where they came from originally. I can assure you if they're the cheapo Chinese rotors you absolutely have to turn them if you want your brakes to act correctly.

Re: Should I get new rotors turned?

It's the wife's car, so it's totally possible there was a brake slam. I asked her and she said no. But it was the first thing I thought of.

Thanks for the quick replies. Maybe I'll get more of my replacement parts from NAPA instead. I just thought that was odd that I'd have to get new rotors turned. Glad it's not just me.

Re: Should I get new rotors turned?

In the interest of full disclosure...

So I let the local shop have at it. He replaced the left front caliper and brake hose, and turned the rotors. So maybe it wasn't originally the fault of the rotors. Felt smooth on the way home, so maybe that's the end of it.
