brake line different....drum vs disc?

So is the brake like basically the same between a drum and disc rearend other than i guess there would probably be an additional 2 rubber flex lines (one at each caliper)? Does it still come off the body at the same central point and attach to the diff and then hard lines from a "T" to each side?

I just blew the axle line and the plan was eventually to do all stainless fuel/brake lines when it came time to re-doing them, but there is the possibility of maybe upgrading to a disk rearend eventually in which case it would be a waste spending on stainless now if the 2 setups are really different.

thanks.

Re: brake line different....drum vs disc?

the only lines that are different are the 2 lines on the axle. the drum ones are longer due to not having flex lines. They can be creatively re-bent and made to work with discs however.

however, the early cars, maybe up to 84? had SAE fittings and the later models have metric bubble flare

whatever you do, stainless is well worth the extra money

Re: brake line different....drum vs disc?

The early discs (cast iron caliper) don't have a flex line except where it connects to the splitter at the differential. They have hard lines all the way to the caliper.

I have an 85. So would the centre flex line be metric too? The parts store only listed one option for the flex line but 2 options (SAE and metric) for the wheel cylinders). I will likely have to replace the cylinders since i doubt the line nut will come out being so rusty.
