Of course but if you read it, it only take a tiny small puff of the smoke and your done. That dude went through enough as is.

And how many of us have just hosed down parts with whole giant cans of that stuff that would be enough to kill a whole town.

Re: [STICKY THIS] Brake Cleaner can kill

Not all brake clean contains the nasty chemical that caused this guy's problems. I checked the stuff I use at work today and it didn't have it. But it wouldn't surprise me if there are some carb/choke cleaners out there that have this stuff in them too.

Usually anything I spray down with brake clean gets a good blast of compressed air afterward.

Re: [STICKY THIS] Brake Cleaner can kill

Are you kidding me? You want a sticky warning about some moron spraying chemicals onto a surface just before he lights it on fire with a torch?

How many idiots do we want to save in this world?

Hey TGO, Chemicals and fire are bad- please sticky this becasue people are dumb.

Wire brushes people, wire brushes (And not stainless ones either- I thought this was 2nd grade knowledge)

Re: [STICKY THIS] Brake Cleaner can kill

many things can kill, especially when mixed. The common bleach and ammonia makes chlorine gas or something similar which will kill you as well. Burning chemicals, mixing chemicals, drinking chemicals is always a bad idea, it should be common knowledge, but you can protect all the people in this world from their own stupidity or lapses in judgment.

Re: [STICKY THIS] Brake Cleaner can kill

In this case, should you degrease something with chlorinated brake cleaner then lean in to TIG or MIG it you can quickly poison yourself severely and irreversably. Most experienced welders don't use brake cleaner since it leaves residue, but if you don't know and grab the stuff everyone uses for degreasing parts and they are not completely dry you can die or be crippled withput any fire or explosion. This reaction requires chlorinated chemicals and Argon gas.

Re: [STICKY THIS] Brake Cleaner can kill

my question is, while im not a professional welder, i have a good amount of welding experience, i dont understand why you would spray anything onto a surface your going to weld? Residue will cause contamination of the weld and porosity.

Re: [STICKY THIS] Brake Cleaner can kill

In this case he cleaned with Chlorinated brake cleaner, but the part wasn't completely dry. Either way you should avoid brake cleaner anyhow, it's unfriendly stuff. My self and most of my mechanic friends use it only when necessary now. The less you breath and touch the stuff the better off you are.

Are you kidding me.........AGAIN?

Just because you have made '4900 idiotic statments' and pressed the 'send' button makes you 'creditable'?

Besides, research me and you'll know who I am and how many years I have been around here. I own a certain V6 car.
