J65 passenger rubber line length

Guys,

I received my rear J65 braided lines from Ed last fall and am just getting to install them now. The Earls braided lines are 2.5" shorter than the rubber lines I took off and don't fit. The stock rubber line measures 11" and the Earls line measures 8.5" I'm thinking maybe Ed sent me the wrong set. I don't have anything with part numbers on it. What do you think?

All rear disc cars from 82-92 are J65. That said, there's considerable difference between the 82-88 set-up (10.5" rotors and iron Delco-Moraine calipers) and the 89-92 set-up (11.7" rotors and alum PBR's). Pics of the latter in the following link:

Yes I am aware of the differences in years however the 82-88 setup is commonly referred to as J65 and the 89-92 are commonly referred to as PBR. At least in my world.

Anyway based on the pictures in your link it would seem as though my shorter cable looks about the right length for you PBR setup. Would you agree? However my Earls line has a different style end on it than the one in your pictures.

Re: J65 passenger rubber line length

I just looked at more of your pictures from the above link. It seems as though the PBRs have a soft line on both calipers? So maybe what I got from Ed wasn't a PBR. I have no idea. In any case I ordered the Goodridge set last night. Hopefully it will work out.

I would still like to identify what I have now, so at least I can give it to someone who can use it.

Just to verify, as I mentioned above, 82-92 rear discs, regardless of the type of caliper or rotor size, are J65. Yes, the PBR style has a soft line to each caliper--and they're short as you suggest. The 82-88 Delco-Moraine has a hard line to the driver's side, a soft to the pass.

So James, do you have any idea what part I have? The kit from Ed had the usual body to axle center line and 1 short soft caliper line. I'd like to give this to somebody that can use it.

The 82-88 Delco system would have had two lines as you suggest above. The 89+ PBR system would have had three lines.

Re: J65 passenger rubber line length

James, I don't know what you mean.

You think I have a Delco Moraine line set that was built short?

You think I have a PBR line set that is missing a line?

You think I have something else?

Sorry, 87, I can't really say. I figured if you had two liines, the kit would be for the 82-88 set-up. If you had three, it'd be for the PBR set-up. Beyond that....

Re: J65 passenger rubber line length

The Goodridge set had the correct length hose. Problem solved.
