C6 Z06 vs 2010 SS Camaro Brembos

Im battling over what brakes i wanna go with for my car and cant seem to get ahead on either side. So I pose the question to my fellow members here... which would you go with and why? Im also looking at the cost of maintaining the brakes and keeping the car "clean". Keep in mind, cost at this point is not a factor. The car is a red TA. Thanks

Still in the air... 90% street. 10% autocross and roadcourse. At least until smog laws make it impossible for us to have a street machine.

Re: C6 Z06 vs 2010 SS Camaro Brembos

You know your gonna be happy either way, but I'll toss a vote in for the 2010's. I have only experience with the brembos and many hours behind the wheel, and I will say thay are super crisp and halt you like nobody's business time and time again. And I've been behind the wheel of some exotic cars too, no c6 Z06 to officially compare though. Will they make a mess of your wheel, yeah I suppose. But any softer compound brake pad is going to do that.
Besides that, you're not going to be advertising the corvette brand on the calipers, and I think the z06 caliper look is second best.

What about the CTSV brakes? There are 5th Gen SS guys upgrading from the stock Brembos to the CTSV brembos and reporting improvments. Thats what I would go with if I was looking for 14" brakes.

Whatever I run with, I want the complete front and rear setup. I agree with Dman on the advertising of Corvette on the caliper, but at the same time, I kinda like it. The 2010 SS brakes look good and I favor the one piece pad over the 6 piece in the front. I havent thought about the CTS-Vs. There rear Caliper is a 4 piston, correct.

I believe so. However I dont think there are any rear kits for our cars for C6 Z06, '10 SS, or CTS-V.

Ed Miller has just finished the brackets for the 9 bolt to adapt C6 Z06 rears. I am on the hook for an entire front and rear kit right now. Im thinking the 2010 SS would be a better fit for me, but still not sure. I will see if he can substitute Z06s for Brembos or CTS-V calipers since the all mount on a 14 inch rotor.

I don't even see this as being a question. When the brembos have more piston area (despite being less # of pistons) and they're almost a third the cost? Brembos all the way. And this is coming from someone whose had c6 zo6 6pots for ~3 years. I just upgraded my buddies GTO with the brembos and that was awesome, not that it's the same chassis...

Yeah man, Ive been checkin up on the all the work youve done on your ride and I am impressed. So even though you run the Z06s you would prefer (or should I say recommend) the SS Brembos or CTS-V calipers? Is there much of a diff between the two, both 6 piston, pad "appears" to be the same. Just diff color and design.

The CTS-V brakes are Brembos. However the word on the street is they are more effective than the 2010 SS version. Do some searching on 5th gen forums.

Are you talking the newest gen ctsV calipers or the original ones? The original V- ones, along with the SS Brembos are 4pot calipers. But like I said, they have more surface area than the zo6 6pot calipers.

Are the pistons different sizes between the ctsV and the SS? I thought they were the same. Shat. I'll have to measure the SS'

The appear to be exactly the same. Same width, length, pad location, everything. I am interested in the first Gen Caliper.

It appears as though I'm referring to the new CTS-V brakes, while everyone else is referring to the old versions. I guess that makes sense since Ed is only selling kits for 1st gen CTS.

CTS gen 2 brakes seem to be better than the 2010 SS

Re: C6 Z06 vs 2010 SS Camaro Brembos

That is a very interesting and informative post. I enjoyed it. The CTS-Vs were basically a top of the line upgrade for GM, although the very choosy people at Pedders was still unhappy. Keep in mind they are wrestling a 3800 lb car to a stop, while we are only dealing with about 3400 #er. I like how the Vs were a better improvement in braking and provided a more "driver confident" feel to them. My standards are not set that high. For my car. I appreciate you sharing that info. But as is the SS Brembos will do just as good as the Vs for my car and proposed intent of use. the V2 Vs also appear to be a 6 piston setup, no?

Based on that picture, they do appear to be 6 piston.

Re: C6 Z06 vs 2010 SS Camaro Brembos

SO I think we have come to a decision... SS Brembos! I really like the Z06s, but accordin to Iansane, they arent all they were cracked up to be, other than appearance. The Brembos look really nice and would not appear to be overkill for what my driving preferences are. Plus their seems to be better pad contact in comparison to the Z06s and they are a 4 piston setup. Thanx guys for your help. Will post pics when the finally get here and mounted.

Yeah, there is something cool about having someone come into my store (I work in autoparts) and asking what brakes I have. Jaws usually drop when I rattle off 6pot, 12 brakepad setup with 14" rotors. I know I can't afford the carbon ceramic ZR1 stuffs so I'm thinking about the ctsv2 brakes now.

True, the ctsV gen 2 brakes and almost direct rips of the ZR1. MUCH better design with 6 staggered pistons. It's sad that these 6pots with proper design able to fit a 15" rotor are about the same price as the 6pots I bought years ago that are hardly track worthy.
