Brake setup mount location?
Hi, I have the 1988 Camaro with the front C6 Z06 brakes and rear stock iron calipers. I also brought the early 1st design proportioning valve off the 1989 Firebird TTA.
My question is, do I need to have the brake adjustable proportioning valve? If yes, what is the best brand and can I mount it any where? Can the adjustable mount above the brake Master Cylinder level or does it have to be below the master cylinder area?
I also have the Hurst Line Control Lock brake. Can I mount it above the Master Cylinder area or does it have to be below the master cylinder area?
Did you have any problem bleeding the air out of the adjustable and the control line lock brakes above the master cylinder area?
Any advice would help me thanks.

Re: Brake setup mount location?
im sure you can put them both above the master, but it will be hard to bleed unless you put a bleeder fitting of some kind int he tubing at the highest point.
with aftermarket brake setups, its probable best to use a adjustable valve so you can properly set the bias.
Where would you be mounting the master/LL where they would be higher than the master anyway? the hood is really close as it is.

Thanks,
I was thinking of mounting the brake line lock where the clutch fluid hydraulic reservoir is, so that I can avoid drilling holes in the engine bay.

Re: Brake setup mount location?
no need to drill holes, just a little creativity

Your idea could work, but like i said, you would need a bleeder and i dont know where you could put it.

Re: Brake setup mount location?
Interesting setup you got.
I think I would keep the stock prop valve, cause I want the brake light switch.
How are you running without the brake light switch with your adjustable valve?
I was thinking of getting this SSBC adjustable with brake pressure gauge:

Will this work with my setup to go with the stock prop valve? What size fittings and tube lines size do I need?
Let me thanks.

The MC should ALWAYS be the highest point in the system. Otherwise gravity becomes the enemy instead of working FOR you.

Re: Brake setup mount location?
most, if not all aftermarket valves utilize inverted flare fittings or a 1/8-27 pipe thread on the valve, you can use whatever flare you want, but you have to be able to to adapt to your existing lines and flare type. You can keep the stock prop valve, you just have to bend up and flare some new lines. your stock lines have bubble flares.
I kept part of the original prop valve in my 86 when i plumbed in a adjustable valve. I have it cut in half and the holes welded shut, so i just have the rear "t" part of the block for the front brake lines. I only did this since i have stainless lines on hat car and i didnt want to deal with cutting and reflaring them.

like sofa said, the brake switch is just for a warning light on the dash, it doesn't turn on the tail lights. you dont "need" it.

I think I still want to keep the brake light switch and no reason to ask why.
Just wondering if the SSBC with the gauge will work? I have not see any gauge on our thirgen cars. Anyone running one of those?

Re: Brake setup mount location?
i see no reason why you couldnt use the SSBC piece, though i feel its grossly overpriced, unless the gauge is liquid filled, which it doesnt look like.

Re: Brake setup mount location?
How are you going to do that?
If you somehow manage to get 2 combo valves AND the line-lock plumbed into that car, please let us know ASAP so we can stay as far away from Ontario as possible.

Re: Brake setup mount location?
Hi there,
I am in no rush to do it, but just taking my time trying to get the idea how to do this.
I have see two combo valves be done and I dont think I have not see a line lock with it.
Not sure, what you mean by "staying as far from Ontario"?
