Possible Prop Valve for my project?

Hey guys, I've been searching for random parts for my project, and came across this:

ACDELCO Part # 1722005{#14089497}
VALVE,BRK COMB 1ST DESIGN; USED W/M1.0 TUBE NUT THREADS; w/4-WHL DISC BRK(J65); CODE NB; w/o 20TH ANNIVERSARY PKG(Y82) or PERF PKG(1LE)

The pic shows an aluminum prop valve. Will this work with my planned C4 front brakes and PBR rears?

Thanks

If your 84 has the iron combination valve, it'll probably have SAE threads; the alum valve will be metric.

Well mine was rusty and possibly not working, and my brake lines are done for as they rotted out, will replace them with metric threaded ones. So if this prop valve will work with PBR rears and C4 fronts I'll pick it up.

EDIT********
James, I just found your eariler post elsewhere. It seems according to that post the above valve will not work with PBR 11.7 rears. If thats so, I'll just get it from Ed or keep looking.

The part number for your application should be 14089496 / 1st design: M1.0 tube nut threads (For 1982 - early 1989 applications).

Well....seeing as the part number that I found is 14089497; being off by one digit I guess I'll have to get it from Ed. Oh well, so much for being another source.

AAAHHHHHH DAMN YOU CONFUSION!!!!!!!

According to this.....
http://www.3rdgenformula.com/modification/brakes.htm

I can use that prop valve I posted with a M1.0 threaded Master cylinder. And that valve was used on 1LE cars in 88 and 89. So according to that page I can use the prop valve I found on my car with PBR rears and C4 fronts. I'm tempted to just get it and see what happens further down the road.

For sure.

Check out what Hawks has to say about 14089497:

http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/82...nlypair-1.aspx

Perhaps Hawks' info is incorrect. All J65 cars 89+ had the so-called 1LE rears.

Re: Possible Prop Valve for my project?

I'm suspecting its the same for just that reason. Thinking about rolling the dice and getting one, afterall I'm indeed swaping or replacing my whole brake system. Only problem is the valve has 1.0 threads, I don't know if I can get a MC with 1.0 threads so I can get the right lines. Probably reading too much into this stupid thing at this point.

Re: Possible Prop Valve for my project?

The lines going from the combo valve to the calipers have a metric thread on the newer alum valve, whereas the lines on your car are SAE. Not sure if you realized that yet, so you will need to replace them in addition to the lines going to the MC.

Yes I know. As I stated earlier, my lines are also rotted out. In fact it was only a matter of time before I blew out the main line going to the rear as that fell apart when I took it off the car. Since I'm replacing everything I'll get lines that are metric and sized for the MC and Combo valve.

Turns out the 496 part number is the one associated with the 1LE more often, I'll be knocking on Ed Miller's door I guess.
