Which 4th gen master cylinder do I have?

I've read on here that the 93-97 master cylinders are different from the 98-02 pieces. I bought a new aftermarket MC with reservoir about 2 years ago and never got around to installing it. I'm wanting to do it here soon but I read that the LS1 style (98-02) is the one to use because the threads should be the same, not sure of any other differences though.

Is there anyone that can tell me what I can look for on this new part to tell what style I have? Or maybe what size the holes would be for the 93-97 or 98-02? I want to use the right one, and I can sell this one if it's not the right one.

'93-'97 has the same threads as you currently have.
'98-'02 has different thread size and is more desirable to avoid a spongy type pedal. If you look in the master you will see 2 holes in the rear portion that will be for the Ls1 and if it has 1 hole that's for an Lt1 let me find the pics for you.

could be wrong, but im 99.99999999999999999999999999999% percent sure you have that all backwards. the 98-02 have the same threads as a non SAE 3rd gen, and the 93-97 has a different thread on the rear brake port.

So can you tell which one this is? Because I can't see much in the picture posted above, it's too small.

The picture is from Google and that is the way it was shown but give me a minute or two and I will try for a new pic with both parts if available.

Re: Which 4th gen master cylinder do I have?

Thanks for your help! I would rather put an LS1 MC on the car, even if I have to cut the lines and put new fittings on...I want the best pedal feel.

Dang that stinks. I guess I'll be hitting up LS1tech for one and just swap out the brand new reservoir to the one I purchase. This thing is brand spanking new never been used. Only has fluid in it from the manufacturer to keep the seals good.

as far as what you have for the thread sizes here, you have it backwards. the LS1 master has the same threads as the later 3rd gens.

Re: Which 4th gen master cylinder do I have?

I picked up a used LS1 master cylinder for $15 today, since I have the brand new LT1 MC with a new reservoir I'm going to swap that over so it looks nice and pretty. I'm sure I can sell a brand new LT1 MC for more than $15!

Re: Which 4th gen master cylinder do I have?

Apparently. I can't wait to get mine on and bleed the brakes. My fluid has been contaminated for a while and I can't even lock them up anymore.

Re: Which 4th gen master cylinder do I have?

I don't know, because I am not making enough vacuum to operate the brakes properly. My issue wasn't bad fluid or a bad MC after all. I've got 11 #'s in the system when it's running. The MC fits good though and looks great, guess I need a new booster or a vacuum pump or something.

Did you ever figure out the problem? bout to go with a LT1/LS1 booster and a LS1 MC.
