Magazine Article Baer Track System - The Cold Baer Facts

I ran across this article when I was looking for information on Baer Brake Kits for thirdgens.
Has anybody used this brake set up before? What do you guys think about Baer Brakes in general? I've noticed that they use a lot of GM parts but their kits are very expensive.
I've seen a lot of members on here upgrade their brakes to the stock GM thirdgen 1LE brake setup or LS1 style brakes and those folks seem to be very happy with those changes. Going that route also seems to cost less than buying a kit from Baer Brakes too.

Re: Magazine Article Baer Track System - The Cold Baer Facts
Those are nothing more than rebadged grand sport calipers mounted on their custom hub and some of their rotors. You get the same buying grand sport calipers, turning 1LE rotors into hubs, cutting drilling and tapping the spindle and using corvette J55 13" ZR1/Grand Sport rotors. They do brake better than the 1LE stuff but the C5 stuff brakes even better, Even more so if you get the C6 Z51 rotors and modify the bracket for the larger 13.5 rotor. For that conversion you also can cut down your stock rotors, it doesn't use a 1LE turned into a hub. Easier to do and cheaper too! Templates for brackets can be found with a search here.

Re: Magazine Article Baer Track System - The Cold Baer Facts
Thanks for the feed back. Yeah I'm looking around and doing a lot of research on what kind of brakes I want to put on my car. I'm doing 100% street driving and I don't think that I necessarily need or want the special cross-drilled and slotted rotors.
I still wanted to see what you guys thought about Baer though. I was considering their 12'' kit for the front or a stock 1LE set up.
I've also seen a lot of cars that have the C5 or LS-style brakes and they sound like they perform the same or better than the stock 1LE set up. The added benefit would be I could buy parts from GM or at the local parts store.

ls1 and c5 both perform better than the 1le, not the same. And parts are easier to get and cheaper. probably the best bang for the buck brake setups for these cars.

I can't say enough good things about Baer brakes and the products they sell. Actually I have one of their first 13" track kits for the third gens (plain PBR caliper with no logo) on my 84 Camaro - keep in mind there were no other aftermarket options (besides the 1LE) when I did the swap in 1997. I will say that the proliferation of BBK available for all GM cars of all years is awesome, whether it be a OEM part retrofit, or something with 100% aftermarket parts.

Re: Magazine Article Baer Track System - The Cold Baer Facts
I have had them on my car since 2000. I upgraded the rotors to 2piece 13" all 4 corners about 3-4 years after that... I like them.
Yes they are pricey but they were doing the aluminum hub a long time ago and that was something I liked and wanted to have.
I think they are doing a closeout on the 2piston front system now. 495$
Oh wow, 4,000 posts, only took 10+ yrs... Rock on!

Re: Magazine Article Baer Track System - The Cold Baer Facts
Thanks for the information guys. At this point I'm going to start saving up some money.
I know that there are LS-brake kits for our cars that will work but I've decided to either go with a stock thirdgen 1LE front brake set up or one of Baer's 12 inch front kits. For the back I want to get the 1989-1992 PBR style brakes for the rear.
I know the Baer stuff can get pricey but I haven't heard to many bad comments about Baer and most of the parts look to be the same to GM stock parts with some of the systems and parts wouldn't be that hard to come by.
