caliper bad?
87 iroc disc brakes. resolved front brake problem, now have rear brake problem. previous owner improperly compressed rear caliper. i went and bought a caliper and put in on with new pads. started it up and pumped the brakes, piston never came out. i pumped it some more ( pumped the hell out of it) still didnt move. then i loosened the bleeder valve and no fluid cam out. i thought to my self "yup need a new hose,,,,but i was wrong. i loosened the brake hose and fluid went everywhere. so i guess my autozone caliper is junk.??????? or am i just dumb (not my first brake job) but starting to feel like it is.

Re: caliper bad?
You didn't say you bled the caliper. Do you know how to bleed brakes?
Caliper won't have any fluid coming out the bleeder screw until you bleed it properly.
If you are not familiar with the process, let me know. I'll walk you through it.

Re: caliper bad?
lol if the bleeder valve is completely out still no fluid is coming out. you can pump it for an hour then loosen the valve nothing comes out. you can then take it out completely out and pump it for another hour and no fluid cmes out?

Re: caliper bad?
Bleeding brakes is a 2 person job, unless you have a vacuum bleeder.
You need a friend to push down the pedal and hold it down. You open the bleeder for a few seconds and then close it. Your friend can then let off the pedal.
Repeat this step 10 or 20 times and I bet you'll start getting fluid out the bleeder.
It works best with a piece of clear hose attached to the bleeder nipple so you can see the fluid coming out. If there is still air bubbles coming out the tube you need to keep bleeding.

Re: caliper bad?
PS
Sometimes you can gravity bleed a system. You crack open the bleeder, and open the cap on the master cylinder. Gravity will slowly push the fluid through the lines and out the caliper. You do not touch the pedal at all when doing this. Make sure to keep the master cylinder reservoir full.
Just pumping the pedal with the bleeder open does absolutely no good. Pushing the pedal may push some air out, but when you release the pedal, it just pulls air back in.
