You can do a search for these part numbers. GM # 14089495 and acdelco # 172-2003. These are the same parts. The GM # crosses to the acdelco #. This valve is for the J50 brakes and is the 1st design. Looks like they changed the design in 89 to a different tube nut thread so these #'s should be for your 88 rear drum set-up.

I'm getting ready to install a 4th Gen rear in mine and am looking for a disc/disc valve. c10freak87, where have you found these?

Use an adjustable wilwood proportioning valve. I think that Summit and Jegs both have their own knock offs now too. No need for an actual proportioning/distribution block on non-abs cars unless you are doing an authentic restoration. Adjustables allow you to infinitely adjust for pad/caliper/rotor changes.

Thanks for the assist Tibo. Now for the dumb question, one inlet and two outlets on the adjustable valve? That's just an assumption as I have never messed with the brakes before.

Just dropping my 2 cents, but this is what I am looking to purchase soon http://www.flynbye.com/catalog/i172.html . It's a 1990-1992 1LE proportioning valve. You can also send in your current valve for modifications for a 3rd of the price http://www.flynbye.com/catalog/i160.html . However I am still researching how this valve will hold up to 4th gen brakes all around.

I just bid $19.97 on an adjustable one for the rear only. I guess I just install it inline with the rear brake line and adjust as necessary. I wish I would have noticed that Flynbye modified the stock one. I would have rather done that option.

you are better off with the adjustable valve. It goes in line to the rear brakes after the master cylinder of course. The front line you would just have go into a T block and then eachside goes to one side. So you end up with full force on the front brakes and then adjust the rears for lock up.

somebody on these boards did recently do a write up about how to rebuild a proportioning valve and what spring to order for it. It look easy to do maybe it is worth a try for you.

Tibo,
With what you just said, I assume that I will remove the current proportioning valve then from the system completely? If so, I need to buy a T block for the front and then install the adjustable one for the rear?

Re: need helping finding someone who sells new proportioning valve
Skip91 I just did the PBR lt1 rear disc brake swap and ls1 front swap and I did what most on this site are doing, just replacing the proportional valve spring with a grainger spring I can't remember the part number on the spring but when you replace the spring the rear brakes stop on a dime. It worked great for me.
