Breaks sometimes pulls to the right, and then corrects
My 92 RS sometimes pulls to the right, but self corrects. It's been sitting in storage over the winter. Before I take it in, if I take it in, I need some advise as to why this happens. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Re: Breaks sometimes pulls to the right, and then corrects
Sounds like the rubber hose on the left has failed.
They fail by, the fitting where the rubber hose goes onto, rusting inside; which closes off the hole. Makes the brake fluid molecules have to line up one at a time behind each other to get through. When you first step on the brakes, you get ZERO left brake; but after a while, enough molecules of fluid sqweeeeeek through there to make it work a bit and it straightens out. But then of course when you take your foot off the brakes (you didn't tell us this, but I'm telling you, because ... I can) it pulls THE OTHER way.
Change out the rubber hoses.
Keep in mind that EVERY SINGLE iron component in your brake system, including all the rubber hoses, has been subjected to the EXACT SAME conditions by being bathed in the EXACT SAME fluid for the EXACT SAME length of time and will do the EXACT SAME thing sooner or later, meaning you need to do the EXACT SAME thing ... I'll let you do the rest of the math.
I don't know about any of this "take it in"; all you need to do, is change out the parts. Never hear a MAN talk about ... that other. Me, I usually do it outside, especially this time of the year when it's pretty out. Although when it's below zero out I do it anyway, I just swear more.

Thank you for the heads up sofakingdom. Actually it's pulling to the left, not the right, but I'm sure the same dynamics apply. Do I need to bleed the breaks? I'm thinking of course, but I thought I'd ask.

Re: Breaks sometimes pulls to the right, and then corrects
Actually I haven't had the pull to the left issue lately. It started when I got it out this spring, but I still sometimes get break chatter from the right front brake when I am coming to a stop. It's the same sound when you are stopped, and you slowly release the brakes. It only does this sometimes. It's like the left pads are not gripping as good as the right pads. I believe the two issues are related to the same problem.. Maybe the hoses.

might be a good idea to ask a shop just to see what a set of new brake hoses cost to get installed. if its not alot then it could be worth a try for a quick fix or if u can do it urself

Hoses are around $12 - 15 each at the parts store.
Never thought about "get installed"; with a car this old, you pretty much gotta do little piddly routine maintenance stuff like that, unless you are just dying to put somebody else's kids through college with your money.

kinda sounds like a sticking caliper to me. ive had it happen before. after a ride with it pulling one way or the other, carefully feel the rims for temperature differences. you'll know which one is sticking.

Re: Breaks sometimes pulls to the right, and then corrects
While I'm not saying "don't bleed the brakes", (as some certain other board members will be itching to accuse me of) I WILL say, air cannot possibly cause that problem; and therefore it isn't "the" "problem" (which again, is not to say that "your' brakes don't need bleeding"); and therefore bleeding the brakes won't fix it. Might fix something else, but won't fix that.

Re: Breaks sometimes pulls to the right, and then corrects
Sofa has some good advice there. If the hose change solves the problem, take the old hose and slice it into one inch sections then you will see what he's talking about. I've seen the inner layer of the hose swell on the inside once in the middle of the hose length as well as near the crimped fitting. The hose might look perfectly fine on the outside. The hose reduces down to a pin hole when that happens.

It was the right break hose. I replaced it, and it doesn't pull anymore. Thanks again for the input.

I was a bit lakcadaisical about fixing it until I was doing just under 80, and I had to BRAKE DJ. I almost pulled into the other lane. Anyway, I'm a better driver than a speller.
