The is an adjustment above the drive shaft were the two cables from each brake meet. It is hard to see unless the car is on stands.

Insomniac's 91 wouldn't be equipped with the tunnel-mounted adjuster.

You'll need to swap in the adjuster and perhaps the parking brake pull mechanism. I search may provide more info.

Re: E brake adjustment?

I am having the same issue, I have a 87 sport Camaro. and the ebrake just wont hold the car back. I know I need to tighten the line to remove the slack, but im not sure if I need to take apart my console to get at the lever or go underneath the car and start there. any ideas?

On an 87, the adjustment is made under car.

Re: E brake adjustment?

this is the exact problem I posted in this section last week. Get some cable clamps to shorten the cables if you cant or don't want to get the adjuster.

90-92 cars are self-adjusting.

Re: E brake adjustment?

I have only heard of the cable clamp idea for the record. I don't see why it wouldn't work and I was going to do it but I recently took apart my brake lever to lube it and when I put it back in it works. Maybe it self adjusted or something. Not sure how the self adjustment works

1) how does a self adjuster work?

2) where do you put the cable clamps?

Re: E brake adjustment?

the cable just has to be shorter so anywhere on the cable that doesn't interfere with anything during the full travel should be fine

Re: E brake adjustment?

My cables didn't come today :/. Truck is running late due to the weather here. I was thinking about getting a adjust mount off a 87 or older car. If I use the cable clamp idea, I'll try it out where the two lines come together at the mount, where it turns into one cable.

Not to hijack but Did you have to get a new prop valve? If so do you have the part number? I still need to do that cause I had drums then went to disc, and now my back brakes aren't working as they should. Thanks!

Re: E brake adjustment?

yes i did have to get a new prop valve, dont remember the number tho sorry. i found a guy selling one from a disc/disc car at the time.... not 100% sure if you absolutely have to change it tho. but if i remember correctly if you dont change it the back wheels lock up sooner because the drums require more pressure... someone else may want to chime in on this. Im not 100% sure

Check out the 10-Bolt FAQ (makes no difference if you have a 10-bolt where the brakes are concerned as they're the same) for info about master cylinders, combinations valves and so on.

Re: E brake adjustment?

Ok thanks! I had a 10 bolt drum and went to a 9 bolt disc. I barley have any brake pressure in the back at all. As far as getting my disc e-brake cables, they still have not came in :/

Anyways, did you find out a solution to the problem your having?

Thanks agian!

Re: E brake adjustment?

Ok, so I've been searching and Ive kinda confused my self.... So my car is a 91, the rear end with disc brakes I put in it is from a 87. So do I need the prop valve for the year of my car? Or the prop valve for the year if my rear end? Sorry!! I think I'm over thinking this... I think I need the one for the year of my car = 10164112.

Re: E brake adjustment?

82-88 cars have Delco-Moraine calipers, the 89-92 cars have PBR's. The two caliper types have different combination valve requirements. The issue is that the correct valve for the 87 won't fit the 91 as the threads are different. Again, check the FAQ for specific info on sizes.

Perhaps your best bet under the circumstance is an adjustable after market valve.

Yeah that's what I found last night in a search. Still looking for a part number and where I can get a adjustable valve. Do you know? Thanks!

Search Summit and/or Jeg's for the valve.

Re: E brake adjustment?

I swapped a disc 89 diff into my 90 (upgrading from drums) and swapped the valve from the 89 car at the same time. It threaded right in for me, piece of cake. So presumably an 89 valve would work with 89-92 cars but this is just my experience.

You got lucky.

1st design: M1.0 tube nut threads for 1982* to early 1989 applications
2nd design: M1.5 tube nut threads for late 1989 to 92 applications

*Some early 80's thirdgens were SAE instead of metric, so be aware.
