Drum Brake Help

Just took apart/(almost) put together my rear brakes for the first time. This is the only piece left and I can't find/make out what it is in the manual. Can anyone ID and confirm or deny it's importance?

Re: Drum Brake Help

that piece centers the spring for each shoe. theres one for the front and one for the rear. the spring is about 1"-1 1/2" long and fits inside that piece.
the pin goes through it.

Re: Drum Brake Help

Both the replacement kit and what I found on the ground only shows one on each side. Is each of the 4 supposed to have one?

Yup, one in each shoe. 2 on each side. 4 total on the car.

Re: Drum Brake Help

That cup goes in the rear shoe as the adjuster pivot. So one for each side. See this link for great pics and illustrations of the rear drum brakes.:
