Replacement brake booster - recommendations

After 30 years I think the time has come to replace my brake booster. Any good suggestions where to buy a new one and what is a good brand?

Related question, does the 4th gen booster drop right in or is there some fiddling involved? I already have a 4th gen master cylinder.

Re: Replacement brake booster - recommendations

Nevermind about the 4th gen booster. The rod is longer and I don't want a higher pedal.

All I see for 3rd gen boosters are reman. Any new parts out there?

Rebuild yours? It's not really that hard.

Re: Replacement brake booster - recommendations

I've read somewhere that people are using S10 brake boosters, but i'm not sure what all is involved in that swap. I was about to start doing searches for them since the rest of my brake system has been replaced. From what I remember, and don't quote me on this, it's supposed to be a great upgrade and sounded like a direct bolt in. I haven't found exact details on that yet though.

I didn't know it was a do-it-yourself job. That sounds more my style!

What brand parts do you recommend?

Heck, where do you even get parts at all? I can't find any rebuild kits for our cars.

I have done older ones back in the day but really haven't done a 3rdgen one even though they are the same design.
Back then you just went to dealer or parts store and grabbed the parts. Even though I don't foresee any failures, I May start looking around for suppliers.

I know they are out there, and I know your pain. I have looked for the diaphragm too, Maybe email the guy at brake boosters dot com if he can help you out? You'll also need to make a tool to twist the halves apart, I have seen it with a piece of flat stock with holes drilled in it and a long bar welded to that.

Re: Replacement brake booster - recommendations

I never did find a rebuild kit for the more modern dual diaphragm boosters. Just the old antique cars with older style boosters.
