Just thought I would pass on a idea I had when converting to LS1 Rear brakes using the stock 3 gen cables for PBR (alum) rear calipers. I made 9.5" long (measure in between the nubs at each end) extension cables. I had to tack weld the cables at each end to ensure the nubs I crimped did not slide off. then used a cable splice that I cut open long ways to slip both old and new extension cables in. Closed it and used a small hose clamp to ensure it did not re-open.
Cheaper than the special cables and in the last 3 years has not failed.
Since I have the car apart for some upgrades it's a opportunity to take a good photo of it...
Where does a guy get those return springs on the caliper side?? I run the Hawks swap cables on my 91 but as it is they are basically there for looks. I keep hearing stories of the 90-92 had self adjustment in the handle but that's definitely a lie

If your talking about the spring on the end of the cable you will have to get a new cable. My mod is still going strong after 8+ years.
If your talking about the lever in the backing plate. I can't remember for certain but I think the shoe is 1 piece and that acted as the spring on the lever to push it back. I ended up getting the little dust boots for the lever from a late 2000's or early 2010's Chev/GMC 1/2 ton pickup can't remember the part # but they fit without mods as I recall.

I'm talking about the springs at the caliper end of the cable. I'm using Hawks swap cables and they don't come with them at all. I think I found a spring that I can make work
I've been waiting 2 weeks for my hawks e-brake cables, they don't work. I will be calling them on Monday. They are the same length as my stock cables. 1991 Firebird Formula with 4 w disks. I have a third gen rear with 4th gen disks on it. Cables on the forth gen come in from the rear so the cables need to be extra long to make the u turn.. Maybe I will just have to do the 9.5" extension.

I also have the Hawks cables but they don't have those little return springs that are on the caliper ends
It's been 7 years since I did mine with the extensions. Have not had any issues but I will mention the crimp for the ferrules must be really tight or they can slip. An alternative is crimp them with a vice or hammer then just put a small tack weld on the open cable wire ends to prevent them slipping thru.
Hmmm that's crazy. Mine fit absolutely perfectly on my MWC 9". The only issue I had was there were no little springs on the cables on the caliper side
Do you have pics of the springs? Or a part number? I am willing to give it another shot. I do know the cable bracket on my Kore3 brake kit will need to be opened up a touch to fit the diameter of the cable. Other than that, the cable seemed too short.

The springs I bought are Prime-Line Products SP 9713 7/8' diameter 4" long
