Cast Iron Proportioning Valve Mod?

This is for the guys who have installed rear disc brakes on their third gen's and have modified their existing proportion valve by installing a stiffer spring.

Does this mod work for the cast iron proportioning valves found on the 82'-84' year models? I'm sure I can find a stiffer spring that would fit, but that style disassembles differently that the aluminum one. On the cast iron one, the spring comes out, but the valve itself does not (at least in my very limited experience). I'm needing more rear hydraulic pressure and there isn't really a good Prop valve I can buy that would work with my current brake fittings.
