I've been working on the rear brakes on my 88 GTA and I haven't been able to figure out how to put the brake pads in the caliper. The caliper is the exact kind I took out of the car and I'm fairly sure the brake pads are the correct ones as well but when I put them in they do not stay in place. Does anyone know how the brake pads fit in? Are these the right ones? Is it ok if the brake pads are not super secured? Thanks for the answers.
Here are pictures of what I'm talking about:
The red is the clip that came with the brake pads and the yellow is the clip that came off the old caliper. As you can see, the near pad stays somewhat in place but would be easy to take off while the far pad doesn't stay up at all.
I know that this clip should be on the caliper like this but I don't see how it would attach to the brake pad.
The clip circled in orange isn't needed due to the type of caliper (that's meant to clip inside of a caliper that has the hollow-type piston). For the other clip that appears to be an anti-chatter clip. Look on the back of the pads for a little hole on each one, it should clip into the hole in each pad and basically provides some pressure that pushes them apart when not braking.
I know that this clip should be on the caliper like this but I don't see how it would attach to the brake pad.
It's hard to tell from the photo, but there appear to be notches in the top of the brake pad. That clip looks like it circles the caliper, and the two hooks at the top hold the pad in place. Refer to This post, it illustrates what I'm talking about.
